Virtual lab is an initiative of Ministry of Education under the National Mission on Education through ICT. It provides a complete learning management system where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web sources, video lectures, animated demonstrations and self - evaluation. Virtual lab provides remote access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering.

The 4rd workshop on “Virtual Labs” was conducted on Aug 30th – 31st 2021 and September 1st 2021 by School of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru in collaboration with Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Roorkee.

The objective of this workshop is :

  • To provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. These Virtual Labs would cater to students at the undergraduate level of ECE, CSE/CT, AE, and Mech .
  •  To enthuse students to conduct experiments by arousing their curiosity. This would help them in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
  •  To provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation.
  • To share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of users due to constraints on time and geographical distance.
The mode of conduction of the workshop was Webex and google meet platforms. The number of Active participants for the sessions were 445 Students from various branches of DSU.

The workshop consisted of sessions handled by eminent resource persons: Prof. R. S. Anand, Principal Institute co-ordinator, Virtual Labs, IIT Roorkee, Mr. Chetan Dhiman, Mr. Amit sharma, Ms. Priyanshi Agarwal, Mr. Jasbir Singh, Mr. Rajeev Kumar, from IIT Roorkee who shared their expertise on the topics of Virtual Labs followed by Demo of Digital Electronics, Basic Electronics, Digital Signal Processing, Machine Tools, Dynamics of Machine, Fluid Mechanics, Python Programming, Image Processing and Soft Computing Tools in Engineering related experiments on virtual labs.

The workshop was organized by Dr. Saara K, Nodal coordinator of Virtual labs for DSU, Mrs. Anna Merine George of ECE Department, Mr. Ravitej Y P of Mechanical Department, Dr. Revathi V of CSE Department and Mr. Sripad Kulkarni of AE Department.

Students quoted “Great session-it was very informative, it is very important in today's situation to switch to online virtual labs to provide greater accessibility,” “It was great attending this virtual lab as I’m working on the same topic for my projects it helped understanding the concepts and in what way we should work with those concepts”, “ Virtual lab is the future”.
